COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) apprehended a man after he reportedly crashed into a vehicle and a fence at Garland Brook Cemetery on Wednesday morning. Officers responded to a report of a driver leaving the scene of an accident near State Street and Central Avenue at around 9:40 a.m.
Law enforcement located the car and made contact with the operator, Nicholas Marino, 33, of Athens, Ohio. The suspect was allegedly uncooperative and attempted to kick one of the investigating officers. CPD says he refused a blood draw at Columbus Regional Health (CRH), so they obtained a warrant so that the task could be completed. While at the hospital, police say the Ohio man continued to be belligerent and reportedly assaulted an officer.
Marino was discharged from CRH, taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, and charged with resisting law enforcement, battery on a law enforcement officer, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
