SCOTT COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana State Police (ISP) detectives are investigating an alleged attempted murder case in southern Indiana after a female victim was brutally stabbed in the early morning hours Thursday.
Austin Police Department officers and Scott County Sheriff’s Office deputies contacted ISP at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday after locating a man and a woman near York Road, a rural county road just west of Austin. Both individuals were taken to Louisville hospitals for apparent stabbing and knife wounds. A call to 911 first alerted the police to the possibility of an incident.
The initial ISP investigation indicates the suspect, Nicholas Braydan Atwood, 22, of Vallonia, allegedly stabbed his female companion while they were driving.
After receiving medical treatment, Atwood was arrested and now resides at the Scott County Jail. The female victim, who was repeatedly knifed, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
This is an ongoing investigation, and more charges are possible.
