COLUMBUS, Ind. – IU Columbus Education student Amy Warren was honored as a 2024 Dennis Beadles Outstanding Future Teacher Awardee from the Indiana Council for the Social Studies (ICSS) on Nov. 8 at the ICSS annual conference, held this year on the AirPark Campus in Columbus.
Warren is a full-time student and full-time teacher’s aide at Southside Elementary School, where she’s worked for 10 years with English language learners and was recognized as the school’s certified staff person of the year last year. She was also nominated for the 2024 RISE award from the Indiana Department of Education, participates in the Center for Civic Education’s We The People 2024-2025 teaching cohort, teaches at the iEngage summer civics camp, and is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi education honor society.
“Amy’s impact on the local Columbus community is clear,” said Stephanie Serriere, IU Columbus Education professor. “Not only is she highly regarded by IU Columbus faculty, and local principals and teachers—most notably, she is adored by her students. This is evidenced by copious thank-you notes from her EL students, two of whom wrote ‘We are starting to understand English, thanks to you.’”
