NEW ALBANY, Ind. – In an unusual case, Indiana State Police report that a man was shot and killed during a Saturday evening dispute in New Albany.
Kevin Campbell, 68, said he was inside his residence when he heard a knock on his bedroom window at around 5 p.m. After retrieving his rifle, he went to his front door and stated he saw 41-year-old Christopher Proctor standing outside, holding a sword.
Campbell told detectives that Proctor approached his doorway with the sword in hand, at which point Campbell fired a single shot striking the supposed intruder in the chest. Proctor was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.
After an almost two-hour delay, Campbell phoned the New Albany Police Department to report a deceased male in his yard. When officers arrived, Campbell allegedly informed them that he had shot Proctor. The shooter was detained and transported by detectives to the Sellersburg Post for interviews.
Campbell has been preliminarily charged with Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 Felony) and is incarcerated in the Floyd County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
