NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) asked the Indiana State Police (ISP) Versailles Post to initiate an in-custody death investigation on Friday afternoon.
NVPD Officers responded to a domestic incident at a residence on Hoosier Street on Friday at around 5:50 a.m. It was the second call-to-service to the residence.
Following an on-scene investigation, officers took Timothy J. Fugate, 41, of North Vernon, to Ascension St. Vincent Jennings for medical examination.
During transport to the hospital, it is believed Fugate suffered a medical episode and was unresponsive upon arrival. Medical treatment was provided to Fugate for about 40 minutes until he was pronounced dead.
NVPD contacted ISP and requested detectives and crime scene investigators initiate an in-custody death investigation.
Fugate’s body was transported to Hamilton County, Ohio, for the autopsy which is pending.
