SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD) conducted a traffic stop on Sunday evening that resulted in the arrests of two individuals on several drug-related felonies. Officers received information that the driver of a car, in the area of 9th and N. Ewing Streets, was possibly under the influence of illicit substances.
Law enforcement observed a vehicle matching the description and after developing probable cause conducted a traffic stop.
When the car pulled over, patrolmen noted that the driver, Luke Newkirk, 33 of Seymour, attempted to switch seats with the passenger, identified as Ryanne Snodgrass, 36, of Seymour.
After checking records, SPD positively identified Newkirk as a habitual Traffic Violator (HTV).
While taking the driver into custody, a brief struggle took place during which the suspect allegedly tried to discard a plastic bag containing a substance that later tested positive for Fentanyl.
During a search of the vehicle, officers supposedly found about 2.5 ounces (70+ grams) of methamphetamine, scales, and paraphernalia. They also noted that Snodgrass had allegedly attempted to hide a syringe and paraphernalia during the transport to the jail.
Newkirk was arrested for Operating as an HTV, Dealing Meth, Possession of a Syringe, Possession of a Narcotic, Obstruction of Justice, and Resisting Law Enforcement.
Snodgrass was booked for Dealing Meth, Possession of a Syringe, Possession of a Narcotic, and Obstruction of Justice.
