NORTH VERNON, Ind. — The City of North Vernon has been working on a housing development project since the South-Central Indiana Talent Region, which includes Jennings County, was awarded $30 million as part of the READI grant initiative of 2021.
One of the projects presented was what is now known as Heritage Estates, and construction on the subdivision started in the fall of 2023 following months of planning.
The Jennings County Area Plan Commission has issued at least seven permits for lots. Homes are built in four-to-six months. There is an Architectural Design Committee that must approve all home designs. There are restrictions on minimum square footage, solid surface, and garages, among other parameters.
North Vernon Mayor Shawn Gerkin said, “Contact RyBuilt Homes if you are interested in one of the spec homes or call your local realtor for information. If you use a personal builder, have the builder contact Josh Hillman at DC Develop at 502-608-9325. Lots are only being sold to builders, and construction must begin within 60 days of purchase. It’s my hope that after the first couple of RyBuilt homes go up and sell, our local builders will also start building.”
