NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP)-Versailles Post arrested a Johnson County man on felony drug and weapons charges Sunday. The arrest occurred when troopers stopped to check the driver’s well-being after his vehicle stalled in the roadway.
Troopers observed an SUV stopped on the side of US 50 just west of North Vernon at around 9 a.m. The vehicle partially blocked the eastbound lanes, so the troopers stopped to help.
The driver, Christopher Spall, 33, of Greenwood, stated he did not need assistance. However, the officers say they observed signs of possible drug activity in the vehicle.
ISP Troopers then deployed K9 Bosco, who alerted to the odor of drugs coming from the car. During a subsequent search of the SUV, officers allegedly located about 23 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a loaded AR-15-style rifle, marijuana, and other drug-related items.
Spall was taken into custody, transported to the Jennings County Jail, and charged with:
- Possession of Meth with a firearm (Level 3 Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon with Prior Conviction (Level 5 Felony)
- Possession of marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor)
- Possession of paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)
