INDIANAPOLIS – Annabel Freeman and Miguel Salas-Prieto are serving as interns for State Sen. Greg Walker (R-Columbus) and the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2024 legislative session.
Freeman is a graduate of Columbus North High School and is now a sophomore studying natural resources and environmental science at Purdue. Salas-Prieto graduated from North and IUPUI with a Cybersecurity degree.
“It’s very important for young Hoosiers to be involved in their communities and learn what goes into state government and lawmaking,” Walker said. “I’m grateful for all the interns who take this time to learn about public service and help us navigate the legislative season.”
As a legislative assistant intern, Freeman tracks and analyzes bill data, provides constituent services, staffs Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conducts legislative policy research.
As an IT intern, Salas-Prieto helps senators and staff troubleshoot technology issues and run cameras and other equipment during committee meetings so hearings can be live-streamed online.
Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by March 14.
