SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Fire Department (SFD) said its C-Shift responded to a residential fire on Saturday at around 6:30 p.m. Fire units arrived to heavy smoke pushing out of the eaves of the home on all sides and flames showing out the rear of the house.
Neighbors informed first responders that the occupants were not home. Firefighters entered the residence and initiated a rapid search locating only a family pet.
The blaze was under control in about 20 minutes. SFD remained on the scene for three hours performing an overhaul and determining the cause and origin of the fire.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family who were displaced.
No humans were injured in the fire, but unfortunately, the family pet did not survive.
