HAYDEN, Ind. – The Hayden Historical Museum is hosting a concert by the Woodshop Boys band at their Christmas Open House on Sunday, December 3, in the pavilion, at 1 p.m. After the concert, there will be a brief rededication of the Hayden Road sign and then the Hayden Museum, A Place Called Yesterday, and the 1947 Sinclair gas station will be open for visitors.
The open house features a Christmas baking contest with two categories: Cookies, and Other Holiday Treats. The winning goodies in each category will be put up for silent auction. Proceeds benefit the Hayden Little Hoosier Historians’ projects and activities.
The remaining entries will be available for people to snack on in exchange for a donation. There will be other refreshments, including homemade soups.
Visitors will be able to experience home entertainment from the days before electricity as Mike Waskom plays Christmas music on some of the antique musical instruments. John Ziegler will play Christmas music on a pump organ in A Place Called Yesterday.
Attendees will be transported back in time while looking at the 1965 Living Room in the museum’s exhibit area. It will feature an aluminum Christmas tree and some old Christmas cartoons will be playing on the black-and-white television set.
The 1947 gas station will also be decorated for the holidays and some old Christmas programs and music will be playing on the console radio.
