COLUMBUS, Ind. –The City of Columbus will observe the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a remembrance ceremony held on Monday, September 11, on the Columbus City Hall Plaza. The tribute begins at 8:30 a.m. and is open to the public.
The ceremony will include a moment of silence followed by a dispatch broadcast to honor the first responders and citizens who lost their lives following the attacks at the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 which crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on September 11, 2001.
Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives during the attacks on that Tuesday morning.
The Columbus Police and Fire Color Guard will take part in the ceremony and Columbus Fire Department (CFD) officials are scheduled to speak. In addition, a traditional Fire Service bell ceremony will take place to honor the fallen. The ceremony is scheduled to last approximately 30 minutes. In the event of rain, the location will move to the Cal Brand Meeting Room inside Columbus City Hall.
