COLUMBUS, Ind. – The primary election is in the books.
In the 2023 Columbus Municipal Primary, the city’s director of administration and community development, Mary Ferdon, handily earned the Republican nomination. She captured 63% of the vote over former Indiana state representative Milo Smith. She will run unopposed in November unless Democrats name a candidate by July 3.
In the race for the Democratic nomination for Columbus City Council District 3, Jerone B. Wood gets the Democratic nod with 40% of the vote. Tony Hayden and Michael Kinder each received about 30%. Wood will go on to face Republican Sue Norman-Chapple in the fall.
Other results of note in south central Indiana included the race for the Republican nomination for mayor in Greenwood. Incumbent Mark Meyers received 55% of the vote, while former Center Grove School Board President Joe Hubbard tallied 45%.
In Seymour, the Republican nomination for mayor went to the current occupant, Matthew Nicholson, who received 59% of the vote compared to Dan Robison’s 41%.
