EDINBURGH, Ind. – A report of possible counterfeiting at the Carters Clothing Store at Indiana Premium Outlets on Thursday resulted in two arrests by the Edinburgh Police Department. When he arrived at the scene, Chief Doyne Little said he saw a female suspect run from the store and get into the back of a black Toyota Camry.
He tried to stop the car but it fled south on US 31, in the northbound lanes, almost hitting several vehicles. The car was finally caught at the 65-mile-marker of I-65 after being blocked by stopped traffic.
The driver, William Cokley, and the woman, Erica May, were taken into custody. Officers retrieved four counterfeit bills allegedly thrown out of the car during the chase and two others passed at the store.
Cokley and Mays were taken to Bartholomew County Jail and charged with counterfeiting, theft, resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, possession of marijuana, and other driving charges.
