COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) announced the retirement of Lt. Russ Dixon on Monday. Dixon joined CFD in 1987 and retires with 34 years of service. He earned several officer promotions throughout his firefighter paramedic career including Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief.
Columbus Fire Chief Andy Lay also said Monday that firefighter Dan Smith is being promoted to Lieutenant. Smith has been with CFD for 12 years. He has garnered numerous technician-level certifications in his career, including Paramedic, Hazardous Materials Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician, and more. Smith is also a state-certified fire instructor and fire investigator.
The Columbus Fire Department says Lt. Smith has been assigned to Battalion A at Fire Station #1.
