COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts briefed the corporation’s board on the latest COVID-19 developments at Monday evening’s board meeting.
So far this year, corporation-wide cases hit their peak in the two weeks after Labor Day weekend. Since fall break, there have been 34 positive test cases.
Dr. Roberts emphasized that the everyone-masks policy is taken from federal CDC guidelines. Close contacts of known cases will be allowed to remain in school so long as they are asymptomatic. However, it will be necessary to quarantine “close contacts” in situations such as extracurricular activities and physical education classes.
During public comments, one BCSC parent spoke, saying, “Don’t let us [parents] put you [board members] in a box.” He pointed to the school systems in Hamilton County, Indiana, and Loudoun County, Virginia, where the FBI became involved after heightened tensions, as what should be avoided. He did note that public comment is not a privilege granted by the board, but rather a right.
