COLUMBUS, Ind. – Authorities with the Columbus Police Department (CPD) say a Bartholomew County man was arrested on Friday afternoon on several felony charges in conjunction with a narcotics investigation.
Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of McClure Road after the report of an overdose. A search warrant for the residence was obtained and during the investigation, law enforcement says it established probable cause to arrest Michael Ames, 39, of Columbus, on drug charges.
Police later located Ames riding a bicycle near 7th and Cherry Streets. Officers attempted to stop him, however, he allegedly began fleeing on his bike. While attempting to evade CPD, Ames supposedly began discarding items he had in his clothing. He eventually lost control of his bike, crashed, and was taken into custody.
Ames is facing preliminary charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of meth, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a legend drug injection device, visiting a common nuisance, and resisting law enforcement.
