TAYLORSVILLE, Ind. – The German Township Volunteer Fire Department (GTVFD) in Taylorsville is celebrating its 64th birthday this week.
As the name implies, GTVFD is strictly a volunteer organization. It was formed in 1956 and started with 12 firefighters and three trucks. In the early days, personnel only responded to fires. Today they respond to fires, medical emergencies, car crashes, and hazardous material incidents, among several other types of situations.
It is the busiest Bartholomew County fire department and is on track to respond to over 730 calls this year.
