COLUMBUS, Ind. — Sandi’s Closet Inc., a charity that provides free shopping experiences for people living with dementia, is having its fall fundraiser, “To Have and Have Another.” The event is a cocktail party with Golden Age of Hollywood themes to be held at Helen Haddad Hall, 315 Franklin St., on Thursday, November 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Founded by Jill Tasker in 2022, Sandi’s Closet was inspired by her mother, Sandi Hinshaw, who loved to shop. Sandi had Alzheimer’s and as the disease progressed, being able to shop in actual stores became very challenging.
“One day, I put a bunch of jewelry I got on eBay on a table in my living room and told her my dad was treating her to a shopping spree,” Tasker said. “She was so happy picking out her favorites. The positive effects made me want to try the same thing for other people living with dementia.”
Sandi’s Closet serves fifteen facilities, such as assisted living, memory care, and adult day care, in eight counties. All proceeds from “To Have and Have Another” support Sandi’s Closet events in those facilities and for community events to benefit people still living at home.
Tickets to the event are $50 and can be purchased here.
