SCOTTSBURG, Ind. – A Scott County woman is dead, and two others suffered severe injuries in a three-vehicle collision Friday evening just west of Scottsburg.
A Scott County firefighter arrived on the scene at around 9:20 p.m. and advised of a serious accident at the intersection of State Road 56 and South Zion Road, a few miles west of Scottsburg. The drivers were the sole occupants of each of the three vehicles.
The firefighter reported one driver was possibly deceased, and the others had critical injuries. Indiana State Police (ISP) troopers and Scott County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to investigate the wreck and they requested assistance from the ISP Sellersburg Post Crash Reconstruction Team.
The two injured drivers were transported to the University of Louisville Hospital. The other driver, 20-year-old Catelynn Jewell Richards of Scottsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the complexity of the accident, investigators have not released specific details. The roadway remained closed for over four hours for the initial investigation and crash cleanup.
