SEYMOUR, Ind. – After a two-week investigation, the Seymour Police Department (SPD) arrested a Jennings County woman for theft and fraud on Wednesday.
Ready House LLC, a project management and maintenance company in Georgia, advised SPD that they had sub-contracted S and D Pump Construction to do some work at a residence in Indianapolis that involved replacing a water utility pit for approximately $3,200 on July 2, but the work was never completed.
It was also learned that someone, supposedly from S and D, had made several unauthorized purchases using the Ready House account at the Home Depot in Seymour. Items purchased included a zero-turn mower, multiple battery-powered tools, a vacuum, numerous car wash supplies, and other items totaling over $10,000.
After gathering evidence from the Seymour Home Depot, detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence at 2585 N. State Road 3, in North Vernon. Investigators from SPD and the North Vernon Police Department executed the warrant on Wednesday, August 28, and allegedly found almost all of the stolen items purchased using the Ready House Home Depot account.
While at the home, law enforcement observed four small kids living in less-than-desired conditions. The Indiana Department of Child Services was notified and attended to the children.
As a result of the investigation, Sarah C. Stokes, 23, of North Vernon, was taken into custody and charged with fraud and theft. Stokes was taken to Jackson County Jail and remanded into the custody of the jail division.
