EDINBURGH, Ind. – The Edinburgh Police Department (EPD) attempted to stop a vehicle on US 31 and I-65 on Saturday after the car’s occupants were reported stealing from Indiana Premium Outlets in Edinburgh.
Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle allegedly refused to pull over and fled northbound on I-65 at speeds of 100 mph. Several agencies assisted in the pursuit including the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office which set up stop sticks at the 90-mile marker near Franklin.
The car hit the stop sticks, was disabled with two flat tires, and came to rest just north of the Franklin exit. Two females were taken into custody. When clearing the car, two children were found inside. They were unharmed.
Alea Turentine, 27, and Breanna Johnson, 33, were arrested for Theft, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, and Child Endangerment.
EPD Chief Doyne Little said the children, aged 10 and two, were released to a family member. No one was injured in the incident.
