COLUMBUS, Ind. – As a certified laboratory, the Columbus City Utilities (CCU) Quality Control (QC) Lab must participate in proficiency testing in water and wastewater each year.
CCU recently announced that its QC Lab received the 2024 Water Study results and reported it received a Certificate of Excellence for achieving 100% acceptable data.
Proficiency Testing (PT) evaluates a lab’s performance, examining accuracy, and overall practices. It assesses a lab’s performance under controlled conditions by analyzing the accredited provider’s samples.
The annual study included 257 participating laboratories.
Typical PT includes an evaluation of:
- Sample handling protocols
- Laboratory reporting practices
- Accuracy in testing and reporting correct analytical results within specified acceptance limits
The CCU QC Lab was required to analyze the following parameters:
- Fluoride
- Total Coliform
- E-coli
- Heterotrophic Plate Count
