COLUMBUS, Ind. – The hot temperatures expected through the end of next week could pose a serious health and safety threat, especially to vulnerable populations.
Bartholomew County Emergency Management has announced that two more Cooling Stations have opened for temporary relief from the heat to those who need it.
Both Bartholomew County Public Library branches are now Cooling Stations. The downtown Columbus location is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Hope Branch, at 635 Harrison St., is available Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During the heatwave, Donner Center, 739 22nd St., in Columbus, remains open as a Cooling Station Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cooling stations are cool facilities where individuals, who do not have air conditioning, can come in to cool down and continue on their way. Food, showers, and areas for sleep are not available.
You are asked to respect the rules and other individuals in the facility.
