HANOVER, Ind. – The parents of a five-month-old infant were arrested on Tuesday after an investigation into injuries the child sustained while in the parents’ care. The inquiry began on May 15, when the Indiana State Police (ISP) responded to Norton Children’s Hospital, in Louisville, after the female child was transported to the hospital from Jefferson County with suspicious injuries.
Initial indications are that the child was allegedly in the custody of the mother, Makayla B. Turner, 24, and father, Skyler Hoffman-Jenkins, 28, both of Hanover when the young girl suffered the injuries.
At the investigation’s conclusion, the case was presented to the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office. Warrants were issued for the parents for six felony counts each on charges related to battery on a child under 14 with bodily injury and neglect of a dependent.
ISP says that both suspects were taken into custody without incident and were transported to the Jefferson County Jail where they were incarcerated pending their initial appearances in court.
The Indiana Department of Child Services and Norton Children’s Hospital assisted in the investigation.
