COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) dispatch received a 911 call on Friday just before 7 p.m. about a male who had stolen a tractor near the intersection of W. Lowell Road and N. County Road 250W.
The suspect drove it several hundred yards into a field before. When the tractor owner caught up to him, he fled on foot. Deputies later located him urinating in a roadway.
Derrick Jordan, 20, of McCordsville, ran away from officers into a nearby field but was quickly apprehended. During a search of his person, a Lexus key and several Lexus registration cards were found in his pocket.
It was eventually discovered that the car was reported stolen in Hancock County. BCSO later located the stolen Lexus at a nearby interstate rest stop.
Jordan was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on two charges of theft of a motor vehicle, public indecency, and resisting law enforcement. He remains in custody on a 48-hour hold.
This is a preliminary investigation. All persons are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
