SEYMOUR, Ind. – Seymour Police Department (SPD) Officers Sam Hughes and Joe Fagan were on patrol on Memorial Day at around 9:10 a.m. when they observed a fully involved house fire near Hancock and Euclid Streets.
They located a female yelling for help and suffering from smoke inhalation on the front porch of the residence. Police attended to the female and brought her to safety.
They then entered the home to try and save a male that was still inside. Unfortunately, the conditions were too bad and the SPD officers were forced to exit.
Emergency medical personnel responded and attended to the female victim before she was transported to Schneck Medical Center for treatment. Her condition is not known.
The man, identified as Jonathan W. White, 53, of Seymour, was fatally injured in the fire and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Seymour Fire Department extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
