COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Historical Society and the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department host “Talking Tombstones 2024” at the historic Columbus City Cemetery, this Thursday, May 9.
The public is invited to learn about the graveyard and listen to reenactors share the story of some notable Columbus residents of bygone eras who were laid to rest there. There will be 30 stations to visit at your own pace.
Some of the actors include Mark Owens portraying William McEwen, Greg Lewis playing Frederick Donner, Jill Tasker as Amanda Reed Brown, Julia Fisher in the role of Elizabeth Ruddick Nugent, and Falicia Whited playing Elizabeth A Jones.
Food trucks will be in the parking lot off 19th Street. Cemetery entry is at 16th and 19th streets.
Tickets are available at Eventbrite, the Bartholomew County Historical Society Museum at 524 Third Street, or the City Cemetery on May 9. They are $15 in advance and $20 the night of the event. Children, 5 and under, are free.
“Talking Tombstones 2024” is a fundraiser for the Bartholomew County Historical Society and Columbus Parks Foundation. Due to the terrain of the cemetery, this event is not ADA-accessible.
