COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus Signature Academy seniors Rowan Sharpe, Savryn Wright, and Erica Lambert have collaborated on their senior projects to establish the inaugural Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) Inclusive Prom.
BCSC seniors must complete a senior project to graduate.
The trio observed that many peers refrain from attending prom due to various disabilities. Traditional BCSC Prom events feature lights and music that can overwhelm individuals with sensory sensitivities, such as those with autism and epilepsy, making it unsafe for them to participate. Also, attendees with physical disabilities may not find the allotted space accommodating.
The BCSC Inclusive Prom is scheduled for April 20, at 3528 W. Two Mile House Rd., from 6-9 p.m.
REACH Columbus Inc., a day program for adults with disabilities, is sponsoring the program. For more details about the event, follow @bcsc_inclusiveprom on Instagram.
