FRANKLIN, Ind. – Harvard Model Congress is a conference hosted and conducted by Harvard students in Boston, Massachusetts.
Recently, 32 Franklin Community High School (FCHS) students attended the event and were assigned positions representing real-world government roles, such as lawyers arguing District and Supreme Court cases, Senators and Representatives, Cabinet members, members of the media, and many more.
For five days, they were given scenarios based on their respective roles and the responsibilities that come with those roles. In short, they pretend to be our elected and unelected government officials at the federal level, simulating everyday important government functions.
The FCHS students did an excellent job preparing for their roles, engaging with students from other schools, and passing relevant legislation.
This year, three students earned awards from the Harvard Model Congress:
- Outstanding Delegate Noah Woods – United Nations Security Council (Honorable Mention)
- Shawn Grider – House: Energy and Commerce
- Cole Hufford – Senate: Committee on Intelligence
