NASHVILLE, Ind. – The Brown County Highway Department has announced that Bridge #122 located on Mt. Liberty Road, south of the intersection with Four Mile Ridge Road and north of the intersection of Rinnie Seitz Road, was shut down on Monday. The structure will be closed indefinitely until emergency repairs are completed.
During a routine inspection that is completed every two years as required by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Brown County Highway Department engineering inspectors found excessive rust on multiple beams. The severe rusting condition over time required a three-ton weight limit with no trucks.
After further weight limit analysis and review by the engineers, INDOT, and FHWA, the bridge has closed for the safety of the public until the repairs are made.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternate route.
