6 busted after CPD narcotics investigation

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Six people were arrested on drug charges after the Columbus Police Department (CPD) saw questionable activity at a home on Monday evening.

Officers were conducting extra patrols at around 5:30 p.m. near a residence in the 800 block of Wilson Street after receiving reports of suspicious activity in the area. When they spoke with a couple of suspects outside of the home police said they had a strong odor of burnt marijuana.

A little later, law enforcement claimed they could smell the odor of burnt marijuana inside the home in question when the rear door was opened.

Several people at the residence were detained while CPD applied for a search warrant. Officers and investigators searched the home and allegedly located drug-related items including multiple syringes, digital scales, and glass pipes, along with marijuana, and methamphetamine.

The residence was secured by officers and contact was made with City Code Enforcement due to the poor living conditions in the home.

As a result of the investigation, six people were taken into custody and remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail with a 48-hour hold.

  • Tammy F. Schwind, 36, of Columbus: Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Meth (Level 6 Felony), Possession of a Legend Drug (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor)
  • Jaydon M. Gilmore, 24, of Columbus: Visiting a Common Nuisance (Misdemeanor)
  • Daniel S. Houchens, 32, of Columbus: Visiting a Common Nuisance (Misdemeanor)
  • Demarcis C. Scrogham, 28, of Columbus: Visiting a Common Nuisance (Misdemeanor)
  • Brooks M. Hornbeck, 42, of Columbus: Possession of Meth (Level 6 Felony), Visiting a Common Nuisance (Misdemeanor)
