SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – A Shelby County man has been arrested for attempted murder in a case that Shelbyville Police Department (SPD) detectives have been working on since late last year.
During the early morning hours of December 29, 2023, a 16-year-old was walking home when a vehicle approached him. Shots were fired from the car striking the teenager several times. The vehicle then left the scene.
Officers and emergency personnel treated the injured juvenile at the scene before having the teen transported to an Indianapolis hospital.
After many hours on the case by SPD detectives and the Shelby County Prosecutor’s office, an arrest was made on Friday. Shelbyville detectives and SWAT members executed a search warrant at the home of the suspect.
Alexander Russell, 23 of Shelbyville, was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Murder. Russell was booked into the Shelby County Jail.
