BROWNSTOWN, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP) is investigating a robbery at the JCBank, in Brownstown, on Tuesday afternoon. A suspect was quickly apprehended and jailed on charges related to the crime.
A bank alarm was received by Jackson County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers just after 2:30 p.m. Initial information was that an armed male entered the bank, pointed a gun at employees, and left on foot with cash.
The Brownstown Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department were the first responders. A witness at a nearby residence told law enforcement that a man ran through his yard, got into a black Nissan that was occupied by two other individuals, and fled the area.
A Brownstown Police officer saw a vehicle matching the description traveling westbound on Vallonia Road from Poplar Street, just outside of Brownstown. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle.
The suspect, later identified as Jeremiah M. Bragg, 35, of Brownstown, exited the car holding a handgun and a large amount of cash. He soon dropped the firearm and was taken into custody.
Brownstown Police requested that detectives from the ISP-Versailles Post respond and lead the investigation. Information collected indicated that suspect Bragg allegedly entered the bank, pointed a gun at the teller, and left with about $900 in cash.
He was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail on a preliminary charge of Robbery (Level 3 Felony). The two adult females in the vehicle with Bragg were soon released.
The investigation is ongoing and ISP says more charges are likely in this case.
