COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to two separate fires on Friday morning.
Quick response by firefighters prevented a heavily involved car fire from becoming a structure fire. CFD was sent to the 3500 block of Jonathan Moore Pike around 9:30 a.m. after a report of a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of the Taco Bell restaurant. They doused the flames before the fire could spread to the nearby business. No injuries occurred and the cause is undetermined at this time. The vehicle was a total loss.
A trash compactor fire sent CFD to Flambeau Inc., 4325 Middle Rd., at about 11:10 a.m. Crews arrived to find the fire already under control but heavy smoke remained in the building. Firefighters assisted with smoke removal. Officials said Flambeau did a great job evacuating the employees and with the cleanup effort so that the business could quickly get operations safely restored.
