GREENWOOD, Ind. – UPDATE: Two drivers were allegedly intoxicated when they struck Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies in separate accidents on Sunday.
The first happened just after 1 a.m. as Sergeant Troy Montgomery was eastbound on King Street in Franklin, approaching Umbarger Lane near I-65. Jacobee Doolin, 31, of Indianapolis, allegedly failed to yield the right of way to Montgomery, causing an accident.
Doolin was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor.
In the other crash, a head-on collision that was previously reported below, law enforcement officials say that Fabion Craig, 21, of Greenwood, was supposedly intoxicated when he struck Deputy Clint Abbot’s vehicle head-on. Abbot was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital South and later transferred to a trauma center in Indianapolis due to a broken leg.
Craig was booked for Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated causing Serious Bodily Injury, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Suspended Resulting in Injury, and Resisting Law Enforcement.
Original: Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess says that one of his deputies was involved in a head-on accident in Greenwood early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred on Morgantown Road, south of Old Smith Valley Road, at around 2:45 a.m., as the deputy was responding to a domestic dispute just north of the accident location.
The officer was transported to an Indianapolis Hospital and the driver of the other vehicle was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, both via White River Township Fire Department Ambulance. The injuries to both are believed to be non-life-threatening.
According to law enforcement, the deputy was traveling north and the other vehicle was traveling south on Morgantown Road and was thought to be left of center.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) has requested that the Bargersville Police Department investigate the accident. JCSO is testing to determine if the other driver was impaired in any way.
