COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested two people on felony drug charges after a traffic stop on Tuesday night.
Officers stopped a car driven by Angela Spencer, 46, of Columbus, for a minor traffic violation near 8th Street and Central Place, at around 9 p.m. Jerry Cossell, 47, of Columbus, was a passenger in the vehicle.
A police service dog smelled drugs, according to CPD. When asked to step out of the car, Spencer refused to exit. Law enforcement says that after a short struggle, she was taken into custody.
Several clear plastic baggies containing nearly 60 grams of methamphetamine were allegedly found in her purse. The officers also supposedly located a syringe containing meth near where the male suspect was seated.
Both were placed under arrest and transported to Bartholomew County Jail.
Spencer faces preliminary charges of Dealing in Methamphetamine (Level 2 Felony), Possession of Meth (Level 3 Felony), and Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor).
Cossell was booked for Possession of Meth (Level 6 Felony) and Possession of a Legend Drug Injection Device (Level 6 Felony).
