FAIRLAND, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP), Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and other first responders were called to the area of 6300 N. County Road 325W, on Wednesday, at around 4:50 p.m., after reports of a plane crash in the area. Two men were confirmed dead.
When emergency responders arrived they found what appeared to be a severely damaged small aircraft with heavy smoke in a cornfield.
After the fire was extinguished, the remains of one adult man were visible in the wreckage. Troopers continued to examine the damaged aircraft and later that evening the remains of a second adult male were located.
ISP’s media release on Thanksgiving Day said it was unclear if there was anyone else in the aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration will handle the investigation into the circumstances of the accident. Any further information will be released by the FAA or the Shelby County Coroner’s Office.
