COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus man was taken into custody Thursday morning after he was spotted driving south in the northbound lanes of US 31 and then crashed a short time later.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) responded to the US 31 and 25th Street area just before 8 a.m. when witnesses reported a truck going the wrong way.
The vehicle, driven by Tomas Soria, 29, stopped after smashing into some trees near US 31 and Beam Road. The man had to exit the truck’s passenger door due to the accident. He allegedly had bloodshot eyes and smelled like marijuana, per CPD. He told police he had smoked about a half hour before the crash, per law enforcement.
Police supposedly found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Soria was given several field sobriety tests and was then taken to Columbus Regional Health for a blood test.
He was arrested, transported to Bartholomew County Jail, and preliminarily charged with Operating a Vehicle Under The Influence of Drugs, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
