COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is now accepting patrol officer applications.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and younger than 40 when hired and must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, and complete all aspects of the hiring process and training program.
College graduates, military veterans, and those with law enforcement experience are encouraged to apply.
Prospects must apply online here. Applications will be accepted until December 4. The first steps of the process, including a written test, physical test, and interviews, will be conducted on Saturday, December 9.
The 2024 salary range for patrol officers is $70,000 to $89,600, plus they are assigned a “take home” patrol vehicle with usage in Bartholomew and adjoining counties. Officers work 8.5-hour shifts with alternating weekends off.
Other benefits include up to five weeks vacation time, paid holidays, shift differential pay (up to 10%), college credit allowance of up to $2,850, military incentive pay of up to $1424, clothing allowance of $900 per year, and specialty unit pay of up to $3000 per year. PERF retirement is available after 20 years of service.
