INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana’s June unemployment rate stands at 3.2%, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD). By comparison, the national unemployment rate for June is 3.6%.
In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate held at 63.6% for June, remaining above the national rate of 62.6%. Indiana’s total labor force, which includes both Hoosiers employed and those seeking employment, is 3,428,806 – an increase of 2,096 from the previous month.
Private sector employment in Indiana decreased by 3,100 jobs over the last month but still resulted in a gain of 58,900 jobs from this time last year. Indiana’s June private employment stands at 2,832,100.
Industries that experienced job increases in June included construction, which grew by 3,800 jobs, and private educational and health services, which improved by 900 jobs during the month.
As of July 17, there were 115,930 open job postings throughout the state. In June, DWD says 15,287 unemployment insurance claims were filed in Indiana.
