VERNON, Ind. — Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness, and Art in Vernon, invites the public to attend a special Summer Art Show this July featuring Tom Speer, retired North Vernon Police Department captain.
The special two-week exhibition will feature watercolor and pastel work from Speer. The opening is Friday, July 14, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a closing reception on Friday, July 28. If you cannot attend either date, the Perceptions galleries will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., between July 14 and 28. A portion of all sales of his artwork will go to Perceptions’ philanthropic efforts to bring affordable, high-quality art, yoga, and mindfulness experiences to the community.
Speer is a 74-year-old resident of North Vernon. After graduating from high school in 1966, he served for four years with the US Air Force, including one year in Vietnam.
In 1998, he retired from the North Vernon Police Department, having served 24 years. He ran the Jennings County Dispatch and 911 center from 2000 to 2006.
“I have been painting for about 26 years,” said Speer. “Most of my art is watercolor, but I have also used oil, pastels, and acrylics. Most of my paintings are landscapes, seascapes, and a few still lifes.”
