SEYMOUR, Ind. – The City of Seymour is developing plans for road rehabilitation with an additional sidewalk on O’Brien Street, from Village Circle Avenue to US 50 and from US 50 to 4th Street. The goal is to improve pedestrian mobility to and from residential, commercial, and school facilities. The project also aims to improve the road condition and drainage and to lengthen its service life.
The original roadway was constructed in the 1930s and has been overlaid four times throughout its life cycle. The project proposes a full-depth reconstruction of pavement, additional curb and gutter on each side, and sidewalk on both sides of the roadway. ADA-compliant curb ramps will be constructed on each side of each street crossing, and sidewalk transitions will be used at each driveway crossing.
The proposed project will require 2.87 acres of permanent right-of-way and 0.52 acres of temporary ROW. The proposed start of construction is the Summer of 2025 and the cost is approximately $2.8 million.
A public information meeting about these projects will be held Wednesday, May 24, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Seymour City Hall. City Engineer Bernie Hauersperger and GAI Consultants will be in attendance with updated plans to answer questions from the public.
