SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD) arrested a Bartholomew County man in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that occurred just over a week ago.
The March 24 crash occurred in the 600 block of South Vine Street in Seymour and killed Charles M. Layman, 73, of Seymour, and injured his daughter Tiffany Brewer, 33, of Seymour. Brewer was treated for injuries to her face, hand, and leg, according to police.
On Sunday, SPD received information that Xavier Vires, 28, of Columbus, was allegedly involved in the incident. An interview was conducted with him on Monday, April 3. Police were also informed as to where the vehicle the suspect was supposedly driving was located.
Vires was taken into custody and now faces preliminary charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident resulting in death, a level 4 felony, and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash resulting in catastrophic injury, a level 4 felony.
Police obtained a search warrant for a home on Emma Drive in Seymour and found a car registered to Vires with extensive front-end damage, according to SPD. The investigation is ongoing.
