SEYMOUR, Ind. – After an investigation, the Seymour Police Department (SPD) busted nine people for drugs on Thursday.
SPD received information that someone was in possession of the stolen laptop belonging to a Jennings County trustee at a home at 116 St. Louis Ave. When officers arrived, they allegedly observed evidence of drug use and obtained a search warrant. Police reportedly found controlled substances, prescription medication, drug paraphernalia, and property belonging to the City of Seymour, the Jackson County Highway Department, and a local business, per SPD’s Lt. C.J. Foster.
Taken into custody on various theft and drug-related charges were Joseph Laupus, 70, of Seymour, David Burke, 51, of Seymour, Darryl Booker, 55, of Seymour, Justin Hickman, 36, of Vallonia, Theresa Long, 55, of Seymour, Matthew Nance, 38, of Columbus, Eduin Recarte, 32, of Seymour, Karen Dubbin, 52, of Seymour, and Corrie Burch, 34, of Columbus. Dubbin was also booked for dealing in a controlled substance.
Due to the bad living conditions at the residence, officers requested the assistance of the Seymour Building Commissioner and the Seymour Ordinance Administrator to examine the location. The building commissioner and the ordinance administrator will contact the Jackson County Health Department and all three entities will work with the owner of the house to bring it up to code, according to SPD.
