COLUMBUS, Ind. – Maj. John Martoccia of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has been promoted to Chief Deputy.
He started his career in law enforcement in 1994 in the Corrections Division of BCSO and graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1995 after being promoted to Merit Deputy. During his 29 years at BCSO, Maj. Martoccia has been a patrol deputy, detective, patrol supervisor, narcotics detective, and jail commander.
The Chief Deputy is a graduate of East High School and Vincennes University. He also completed the FBI National Academy, attended by fewer than 1% of the nation’s law enforcement officers, thus joining an elite group of police professionals. He resides in Bartholomew County with his wife, Aimee, and their three children.
“Maj. Martoccia has held every rank within the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and has worked in every division at the department,” said Sheriff Chris Lane. “He has devoted his life to serving the citizens of Bartholomew County and I am proud for him to continue his service as my Chief Deputy.”
