SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced a historic $800 million in grants on Wednesday for 510 projects throughout the nation. A total of $1.8 million will go to Indiana communities.
Shelbyville is one of 10 Hoosier cities or counties that will receive funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). The city is expected to be awarded $120,000. The full list of awards can be viewed here.
The competitive grant program provides $5 billion over five years for regional, local, and Tribal initiatives, to redesign roads, improve sidewalks/crosswalks, and prevent deaths and serious injuries on roadways.
The next USDOT funding opportunity of $1.1 billion is expected to be released in April of this year.
