SEYMOUR, Ind. – Following a three-month investigation by the Seymour Police Department (SPD), four Illinois men are in custody. Law enforcement alleges they stole two box trucks and nearly $100,000 in semi-truck tires.
On July 11, officers responded to Best One Kentuckiana, on S. Commerce Drive in Seymour, regarding a burglary that occurred earlier that morning. Police found that over $70,000 in semi-truck tires had been pilfered and also learned that a stolen rental box truck from Austin had been used during the burglary.
SPD responded to Kirk’s National Lease, also on S. Commerce Drive, on August 14, in reference to a stolen box truck. Video surveillance indicated that the suspects who stole the box truck may have also broken into Pomp’s Tire, which is adjacent to Kirk’s. The next day it was discovered the suspects had taken over $10,000 in semi-truck mounted tires from Pomp’s.
Ultimately, four suspects were identified in the burglary and theft from Best One: Christopher Edmond Sr., 54., Willie C. Murphy, 56, Nathaniel Murphy, 69, and Randell Murphy, 72, all from Maywood, Illinois.
Investigators say that Nathaniel and Willie Murphy were also allegedly involved in the burglaries and thefts at Kirk’s and Pomp’s.
Warrants were issued for all four on charges of burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. The warrants were forwarded to the Maywood Police Department which arrested the suspects.
