FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is receiving complaints about solicitors calling and telling citizens that they have an unpaid traffic citation and that if it isn’t paid a warrant will be issued. Callers use court terms such as “subpoena,” telling the victim that they had ignored a subpoena that involved an investigation.
There is no “law enforcement” agency or court in Johnson County that will call and ask for payment of any kind over the phone. If you do not recognize the number do not answer. Never provide your social security number or any financial information, banking, or credit card numbers.
Scammers do their research and will use names of law enforcement officers who may actually work in Johnson County. Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess says, “I can ensure you that I do not call citizens nor do my deputies call and request payments of any kind. Be alert and report suspicious calls or activity.”
