COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Council for Youth Development (CYD) recognized the recipients of its first-ever Spark Spirit Awards in a ceremony at the Commons Wednesday, the Adult Spark Spirit Award was posthumously given to Nicki Vreeland and the Youth Award went to Rachel Hoke.
Nicki Vreeland was honored for her work with Healthy Communities. Rachel Hoke, from Hauser High School, was awarded for her involvement in her school’s theater department and even wrote a play.
CYD has been celebrating Spark Spirit Week 2022 by encouraging youth mental health and family well-being through fun activities to support positive youth development and helping area young people identify and strengthen their “sparks.”
A “spark” is what people are really passionate about doing, an activity that unleashes their energy and joy and allows them to express themselves and make their own unique contributions to the world.
